Nurturing a culture that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and belonging has always been at the heart of the Workhuman movement. At a basic, human level, we all crave a sense of connection and recognition from our co-workers. And now forward-thinking organizations are realizing the ROI of diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and making it a key component of their overall business strategy.
That’s why we are thrilled to welcome Chaz Bono – actor, writer and LGBTQ rights advocate – as a keynote speaker at WorkHuman 2017. The only child of performers Sonny and Cher, Bono will share his deeply personal journey of gaining acceptance from his family and proceeding with his transformation from female to male in the public eye. He will touch on a range of LGBTQ issues that are top of mind for anyone passionate about building a culture of inclusion.
In 2011, Bono was featured in the three-time Emmy nominated documentary “Becoming Chaz,” a film about his life and experiences, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. His acting career includes repeat appearances on the television shows “American Horror Story,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and “Where the Bears Are,” as well as cameos on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Degrassi,” and the feature film, “Dirty.”
Bono is the acclaimed author of Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man, a ground-breaking account of his struggle to align his gender identity with his physical body, and his transition from female to male, as well as Family Outing and The End of Innocence.
His decision to come out as lesbian in 1995 sparked his public work to support LGBTQ rights and social justice. Since then, he has contributed extensively to “The Advocate,” a national gay and lesbian news magazine, and is committed to raising awareness through college lecturing and facilitating workshops on conducting tolerance in the workplace for major companies and corporations.
He has served as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, promoting National Coming Out Day and as the Entertainment Media Director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
The theme of building a work culture grounded in diversity, inclusion, and belonging is woven throughout the WorkHuman conference. If you’re interested in this topic, you may want to check out these sessions as well:
We hope you’ll join us in May for an enlightening conversation with Chaz Bono and an inspiring three days on building a more human workplace – for everyone in your workplace.
