Thanks, but No E-thanks

Neither internally or extrinsically motivated employees are particularly motivated by e-thanks alone. E-thanks often has the unfortunate result of feeling disappointing or underwhelming to employees, as the organization isn’t backing up its positive sentiments with a tangible manifestation of its message – resulting in a subtle message that the performance lacks value.

In our own study that looked at this topic, 74% of employees told us they found e-thanks alone to be either disappointing or less fulfilling than a message with a reward.
