2-minute read
All through July, the Workhuman® Book Club focused on performance management. We read two books by Workhuman® Live 2019 speakers, one authored by Jason Lauritsen and the other by M. Tamra Chandler. These experts, though they have their own perspectives, are very much aligned on how companies can drive high performance and unlock new levels of discretionary effort.
Last Friday, they joined us for a Twitter chat to talk about ratings, the contingent workforce, the future of performance, and working more human in every aspect of performance management.
Here’s what they had to say:
1. Why does performance management need to evolve?
2. How does the overall cultural shift to a partially contingent workforce affect performance management and growth for the typical organization?
3. What are some best practices for encouraging senior leadership to look at work as a relationship, not a contract?
4. What do you see as the next phase for feedback? For example, is more team-based feedback coming?
5. How do you see performance management evolving in the future?
6. Has technology (such as AI) helped or hindered the transition away from traditional performance management?
7. Some organizations argue ratings and reviews are the only way to explain/justify compensation adjustments. Thoughts?
8. How does looking at work as a relationship versus a contract impact the power dynamics between managers and employees?
9. What’s your best piece of advice to organizations in the early stages of evolving their performance processes?
10. You’re both Workhuman Live veterans. What was your favorite part of the conference(s) you attended?
Jason and Tamra also took questions from the audience and went a little deeper into some of the above topics. You can scroll through the whole Twitter chat here.
Join us later this month, on Monday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m ET, for our next Workhuman Book Club Twitter chat. Christine Porath (@PorathC) will be there to discuss the topics in her book, “Mastering Civility.”
