Thanks, Workday, for the Recognition… and the Reminder

November 19, 2014 Brian Schwartz

Workday Partner AwardI like to think I’m a pretty experienced practitioner in recognition.  With nearly ten years at Globoforce, I’m probably as close to a professional recognizer as it gets.  I talk about it every day. I’ve given out hundreds of recognition awards, and I’ve definitely received my fair share in return. As the creators of the world’s most effective program for employee appreciation and engagement, we do a LOT of recognizing in our organization.

And you might think that would make me a little blasé about recognition.  Like I might have built up an immunity or it might not impress me much anymore.

That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Recognition never gets old. And it still has the power to impress and surprise me in the best way possible.

This happened earlier this month at Workday Rising. Workday’s Alliances group announced a brand new partner award, and Globoforce was recognized as Workday’s first-ever 2014 Certified Solutions Partner of the Year in the Software/Payroll division.

I have to admit, I was completely caught off guard, just sitting in the room with everyone else, when our name was called. I didn’t even know there was going to be a new award, much less that we would win it.

You see, back in 2011, when we began our partnership with Workday, we weren’t thinking of earning kudos. We were just doing our jobs—focusing on how to easily incorporate our powerful employee recognition solutions within Workday’s equally powerful product suite. We did it because we thought it was the right thing to do.

But getting this recognition has helped me to realize what I didn’t before. That just doing our jobs has had an extraordinary impact. That what we’ve built here has meant something. To us. To Workday. And to every one of our clients.

Those of you who use Globoforce and Workday can now manage and recognize employees’ ongoing performance and productivity without having to rig up a customized integration or go through a lot of hassle. That means more information, better integration, and more time for focusing on the rest of your HR initiatives.

This award was a powerful reminder to me, personally, of how recognition can make you see your own contribution through new eyes, and understand the incredible impact we sometimes make when we’re not thinking about it. Just by focusing on doing the right thing, we do things worthy of recognition.

So thanks, Workday. Thanks for working so well with us. Thanks for being such a great partner. And thanks for the reminder about how powerful, surprising and satisfying great recognition can be.
