Symantec and Globoforce Win Incentive Magazine's "Motivation Master of 2009" for Employee Recognition Program

Global, strategic recognition program selected as best-of-the-best among 13 finalists

SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. and DUBLIN, Ireland - January 28, 2010 - Globoforce, the leading worldwide provider of strategic, on-demand employee recognition solutions today announced that Symantec was named Incentive Magazine's "Motivation Master of 2009." Symantec's winning employee recognition program, which was developed with Globoforce, was the recipient of the grand prize award among 13 finalists. This "best of the best" award, which honors the most effective and creative employee loyalty and incentive programs worldwide, was presented at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on December 6, 2009. Symantec's "Applause" employee recognition program was awarded the ultimate title for its successful implementation of an employee recognition program that rebuilt a global culture of trust, appreciation, and empowerment following several high-profile acquisitions that increased its workforce nearly threefold in five years.

"Applauding" Symantec's Employee Recognition Program
In the course of just six months, Symantec significantly enhanced employee engagement and united global employees around key company values through Globoforce's on-demand global recognition platform. Through a series of acquisitions, Symantec grew from 6,300 employees in 2004 to more than 17,700 people in 220 locations worldwide by 2008. This rapid growth created an acute need to improve global corporate culture, encourage more consistent adoption of corporate values, and strengthen employee engagement. Working in partnership with Globoforce's team of recognition experts and strategists, Symantec rolled out a company-wide measurable global program, called "Applause."

Globoforce's online platform, custom-designed and built for the Applause program, empowered Symantec managers and employees to recognize their colleagues for a job well done - frequently with "thank-you" emails and culturally-relevant, localized rewards in the form of gift cards, valued from $25 to $1,000. A key element to the success of this program was that awards were tied to Symantec's core values of action, innovation, trust, and being customer-driven. Six months after the program's launch, Symantec saw a significant change in employee satisfaction and an entirely new level of enthusiasm toward recognition. In that timeframe, employees across the Company's 220 worldwide locations placed more than 14,000 award nominations, averaging 800 awards per week.
