David Lapin is one of the world’s leading thinkers in the fields of leadership and business transformation. As a scholar, speaker, columnist, author of “Lead by Greatness” (Avoda Books, 2012), and founder and CEO of Lapin – the U.S.-based strategy and leadership consulting firm – he has helped thousands of leaders and organizations distinguish themselves and elevate performance at every level.
David’s every engagement is grounded in his humanist philosophy of leadership known as Lead by Greatness™ – a blueprint for personal achievement and business growth forged during the turbulent post-Apartheid period in his native South Africa. Troubled by the country’s racial and social divisions and confident of the economic benefits of social harmony, David designed and applied a series of innovative strategies for reconciliation and efficiency in South Africa’s then-blighted business sector. The profound success of these initiatives led to the founding of the South African Institute of Business Ethics, and established David as a prominent architect of the nation’s prosperous economic and social order, alongside the late Nelson Mandela. In collaboration with Mandela’s government and an assembly of influential business leaders, David drafted one of the world’s first formal codes of corporate ethics. Known as the Code of Ethics for the King Commission on Corporate Governance, it is still in practice today.
After successful tenures as head of Raphaely International’s global metal and minerals trading division, CEO of Serena Pearls (one of South Africa’s largest gem importers), and CEO of Strategic Business Ethics, Inc., David founded Lapin to help businesses and organizations around the world strengthen the collaborative forces that promote their growth and creativity.
From training more 100,000 law enforcement officers – including the Los Angeles Police Department – to build trust through community engagement, to helping a global real estate investment trust expand its portfolio from $2 billion in one country to $11 billion in 15 countries, to helping a Native American hospitality group grow its revenue by nearly 700 percent in eight years, David has spent the past two decades deploying his unique approach in some of the world’s most intricate corporate and cultural contexts, helping his clients consistently and significantly outperform industry averages. In 2015, Lapin was recognized by the Inc. 5000 as one of the world’s fastest-growing private companies.
In addition to consulting, David is an internationally renowned rabbinic leader. A leading candidate for chief rabbi of the United Kingdom in 2012, his spiritual teachings have inspired people around the world to synthesize personal faith with professional performance.
David is a proud member of the National Speakers Association and the Institute of Management Consulting, USA. He is a passionate teacher, and when not traveling for work, he enjoys studying ancient texts, reading modern and classical works, listening to classical music, and exploring the natural world. He has five children and lives with his wife in Los Angeles.
